Artist of the Week: Caspa

Our first Artist of the Week spot goes to "the dopest ghost in town": Caspa who kicked off the first night of his U.S. tour on Thursday night at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston.

Right from the start, Caspa had the Paradise Rock Club raging to his set original tracks and mixes asking the crowd who had school in the morning and calling upon them to "Get fucked up."
If you weren't there, you were missing out.
Dropping numerous tracks from artists such as Skrillex, Dead Mau5, Trolley Snatcha, The Prodigy, Nero, Rusko, Skream, Doctor P as well as tracks of his own, Caspa had the club jumping to over two hours of non-stop energy infused music as he enjoyed every minute of it. He took us on a journey from new and old throughout his set ending with some of his older tracks. There was something for all EDM music lovers of dubstep, house and drum n bass alike.

Tracks featured in his set included:
Fucking Die, Make It Bun Dem, Breakin' a Sweat, Devil's Den, Right on Time (Skrillex)
Make My Whole World (Trolley Snatcha)
Must Be the Feeling, Promises (Nero)
In For the Kill (Skream)
Sweet Shop (Doctor P)
Raise Your Weapon, I Remember (Dead Mau5)

I have to admit, my top 3 favorite tracks of the night were his mixes of "Smack My Bitch Up" by The Prodigy (one of the original influences in the electronic music world), his drum 'n' bass mix of Promises originally produced by Nero and his transition from Where's My Money into Bass Cannon.
Caspa rounded out his set with four of my favorite tracks.  If you know anything about Caspa, chances are you've heard Cockney Thug but, what I didn't expect was to hear Rusko's original track and even more pleasantly surprising was him following it up with Jahova.  Last but, certainly not least, Caspa threw on his well-known mix of Dead Mau5 and Kaskade's track, I Remember and walked off stage with the crowd begging for more, only to return and salute the crowed before ending his set for the night.

If you haven't already, grab tickets to one of his US tour dates before they sell out!
For more music like Caspa, you can check out his label Storming Productions as well as Dub Police consisting of more sick dubstep and drum n bass artists.

Zeds Dead releases a Remix of Bon Iver's track Woods

Zeds Dead posted on their Facebook the news of uncovering a remix they did a few years ago which never surfaced. You can get this track on their SoundCloud.
Notorious for their sick drops and intense wobbling bass, this Canadian duo is throwing us a curveball with a FREE release of their mix of the Bon Iver track called Woods.  While Bon Iver and Zeds Dead may seem to come from complete opposites sides of the music world, this remix blends the styles of both artists beautifully. The members of Zeds Dead have experimented throughout their careers as producers with different styles and, as a result, of their influences (Sublime, The Beastie Boys, etc.), have led their sound to be defined in more ways then one.

At first, one might be expecting a mix sounding similar to Zeds Dead's more typical styles of suspenseful build ups into agonizing drops or maybe one of their deeper, heavier tracks with haunting vocals heard in the first two tracks listed. Especially since they are extremely well-known for the intensity produced into their tracks.

Eyes On Fire (2009)
White Satin (2010)
Bassmentality (2011)
Rude Boy (2011)
Adrenaline (2012)

Anyone who has had the privilege of experiencing the overwhelming energy DC and Hooks bring out with them on stage like I did this passed summer at the Electric Zoo After Party knows the feeling is unforgettable and the vibe they give off is unable to be replicated. The overall intensity is, without a doubt, still one of the most prevalent elements of this track but, Zeds Dead's remix of Woods seemed to be blissfully addicting. Still preserving the uniqueness of Justin Vernon's vocals, Zeds Dead's traditional elements really give you a great idea of the development their own style has undergone in the last few years to produce an unexpected but, refreshingly tranquil vibe that will leave you wanting more.

Download Zedd's Debut Album

Zedd Album Cover Clarity
Today, Zedd, has released his debut 10-track album on Interscope Records entitled Clarity which is available for purchase exclusively through iTunes. You can download the title track, Clarity, for free and preview the entire progressive, experimental, electro house album before purchasing it.

Born into a family of musicians, in Kaislautem, Germany, Zedd has been producing electronic music since 2009:
Icarus Lives (2010)
The Legend of Zelda (2011)
 Scorpion Move (2011)
Stars Come Out (2011)
Shave it (2011)

With his clever progression and placement of group vocals, I've found myself listening to the title track, Clarity, on repeat as I've been typing this post.
The album is comprised of self-produced tracks, as well as, tracks featuring Bright Lights, LIZ, Foxes, Ryan Tedder and a collaboration with fellow producer Lucky Date and vocalist Ellie Goulding on Fall Into the Sky.
At only 23 years old, Zedd already taking as many experimental risks as he has with his first album, Clarity, and producing such a seamless flow from track to track definitely makes him an up and coming EDM artist to watch.

Don't miss your chance to see Zedd with Porter Robinson Back-to-Back on their "Poseidon Tour" this Friday, October 5th at Pacha NYCTickets are still available through Clubtickets!
